John 14:15-16, "If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;"
- The First Commandment is about loyalty- Exodus 20:2-3
The Creator of the universe (Jesus Christ in the flesh), declares he is our God and our Deliverer. He asks us to demonstrate our love for Him by having no other gods.
- The Second Command,emt os about worship- Exodus 20:4-5
God prohibits the worship of images, of bowing before a carved statue. The worship of idols is sinful and presents us unclean before God (Genesis 35:2).
- The Third Commandment is about reverence- Exodus 20:7
God instructs us to respect His holy name and not to use His name in vain. In Hebrew vain is "shaw" and has a broad meaning- iniquity, falsehood, vanity, emptiness. Simply summed up, shaw means showing disrespect.
- The Fourth Commandment is about santification and relationship- Exodus 20:8-11
God initiated the Sabbath day rest at creation. God's people are instructed to remember the Sabbath and to keep it set apart for holy purposes that will draw one nearer to Him (Genesis 2:1-3).
- The Fifth Commandment is about respect for parental authority- Exodus 20:12
God instructs us to show love for our parents by honoring them. (Ephesians 6:2)
- The Sixth Commandment is about respect for human life- Exodus 20:13
God instructs us to demonstrate love, not hatred, toward others by not committing murder.
- The Seventh Commandment is about purity in relationships- Exodus 20:14
To commit adultery is to sin against God (Genesis 39:9).
- The Eighth Commandment is about honesty- Exodus 20:15
To steal is the act of intentionally taking, hiding, or concealing another's goods or property, etc. (Leviticus 19:11).
- The Tenth Commandment is about contentment- Exodus 20:17
The word covet mean to feel envious desire for that which belongs to another; to wish for excessively and longingly. Being covetous can lead one into even greater sins.
